Ways to successfully rent a moving van

By Timothy Phelucci

It's always a little bit stressful whenever you have to rent any kind of vehicle, and a van rental is no different. In some aspects, renting a van is more stressful because you're dealing with things you've never had to deal with before. No matter what kind of van you are renting, cargo, moving, or passenger, you'll definately have a different approach than a rental car. To help you get a smooth rental read this article.

Your first instinct for choosing a van rental company may be to pick the one with the lowest prices. As tempting as this may be, it's not a good idea to make the cost your first or only concern. Even more important than the cost is dealing with a company you can trust. When dealing with an agency with a good reputation, you are less likely to get a van with mechanical problems or one that's uncomfortable. Another terribly frustrating experience is reserving a van, and then it's not ready when they said it would be ready. Companies that have good reputations to uphold are not as likely to make such mistakes.

You'll discover that a cargo van can haul about 300 cubic feet and somewhere around 3000 pounds in one load. Depending on the size of the room and the furnishings in the room this can translate to one or two rooms. It's difficult to talk in specifics about renting vans simply because there are so many different kinds you can rent. Give yourself some time to get accustomed to driving the van you rent if you are relatively new to them. Before you drive away, take five minutes and skim over the operating manual. We believe that there is not much that is the same between driving a van and a car. Before accepting the vehicle, be very sure to do a good physical inspection. The most important thing with that is making sure any conditions that are already present are recorded and known by the service provider.

If you need to move, and your residence is smallish don't forget to look into renting a cargo van. A cargo van is quite capable of holding an entire small apartment, but of course is may depend on what you have crammed in your apartment, too. You can end up spending a lot more on a moving truck as opposed to a cargo van. All you need to do is determine the space requirements for your belongings, and then see if the cargo is suitable.

You will of course want to decide ahead of time what kind of van you will want whether passenger or cargo. These are critical questions you need to answer before you begin shopping. You can find small, medium, and large passenger vans as well as regular minivans. If you need to transport cargo you will want to note the differences between cargo and moving vans. You didn't know all of that now did you? A full size van is appropriate for up to 15 or so passengers plus luggage. A minivan typically is good for 4-5 adults and several small suitcases. Your best approach is to plan and prepare for your move as much as possible. The more you learn about the process, the more comfortable you will be with it. You can even go to some place locally and talk about it with someone.
