Don't Head Out On A Long Road Trip Without Properly Preparing Your Nitto Tires

By Celina B. Giambrone

Millions of families and individuals take to the road at some point during the year to enjoy a nice long vacation in some location they enjoy visiting, and the only way to do so safely is for them to properly prepare their Nitto tires. You might be traveling across the state to see some of your closest friends or relatives or you may be driving all the way to the other side of the country to visit a city you've never been to, and no matter which is the case, you will have to make all the same necessary preparations. By avoiding these critical steps, you could experience anything from a flat tire to a complete blow-out and be stranded beside the road for an indefinite amount of time, so pay close attention to the following steps and take none for granted.

A tire has a few very important jobs, and one of the most important jobs a tire has is to manage a specific amount of air pressure to properly support the weight of a vehicle and move it from point A to point B. Every car weighs more or less than most other models and comes with its own specific tire size, so in order to know precisely what amount of air pressure is required for your tires, you will have to check in the owner's manual of that specific vehicle. Before you even pull out of your drive way, you must get a pressure gauge and check the pressure in each tire, and if any of them are below the recommended amount for your vehicle, you will need to stop at the nearest service station and add the right amount of air to them.

A tire's treads is what keeps your wheels gripped firmly to the road and provides you the ability to guide and stop your vehicle as you make your way to your destination, so you have to make sure those treads are in good shape. The last thing any driver wants to do is lose control of their vehicle during a long trip, and when you have a tire that has had all of its tread worn off, you will have less control of the vehicle. There are a couple of handy ways you can test the thickness of your treads and make sure they are good to go, but the best way is to simply pick up a tread gauge from your local parts store and use it to give you an accurate measurement of how much tread you have left.

One thing that can be really frustrating when on a long drive is for your vehicle to pull to one direction or another or vibrate and handle very poorly, because this can make it more difficult to drive and lower your fuel economy. When you are dealing with problems like this, it is typically because your tires are not correctly balanced or that the treads have not worn evenly, and if that is the case, taking your vehicle to a nearby tire shop for a balance and rotation job before your trip is highly recommended.

You may have a brand new set of Nitto tires, in which case some standard precautions may not apply, but it is always better to stay safe and make all of the necessary inspections anyway. As long as you don't neglect to carry out each of these steps, you should get where you are going safe and sound.
