Pros And Cons Of Used Cars

By Crystal Maloney

Buying used cars is becoming a growing trend especially because of the tough economy, stagnant wages and ever rising utility bills. Many people do not understand why anybody would go purchase a pre-owned vehicle and not enjoy the benefits of having a new auto in one's garage. There are pros and cons for having either of the two and this is why careful consideration should be given prior to buying.

Because the value of the car has depreciated, taxes and insurance becomes very low and more affordable for the individual. What's more is that the car may still be in a very good condition with few miles on it.The low appraisal means that the car will be sold at a reasonable price.

When buying a vehicle, a point to consider is whether it is dependable. The person must think about the hours of driving they intend to do and whether they have children that will be using the car. Big problems such as those of the car engine or flaking of the vehicle's color should never be ignored as they can end up being more bothersome in the future.

Because a pre-owned car is usually close to getting off its warranty, the individual looking to purchase it must ensure that all repairs that are expected have been done. This is because a car goes through the normal wear and tear which leads to slow breakdown that can make it less efficient and more expensive in the long run for the person.

Another reason why people opt to buying used cars is because of the low interest rates that are imposed on them. Most car dealers have gotten their money from the car and so are just looking to get a profit. This is different compared to newer models which have high APR's which is not refundable in case the buyer defaults payments.

The con to owning used cars is that they lack safety features that are now equipped in new models. Things such as instant brakes and air bags must be in a vehicle because it protects all the occupants. It is also not easy for a buyer to tell the history of the pre-owned car because there is always a chance that it has been fully refurbished with deep problems.
