The Innovative Toyota Prius Stands Out As The Standard Bearer For Hybrid Cars

By Justina Willeto

Toyota has been the world leader in vehicle manufacturing for a long time. Their recognition and status have only increased with their move into hybrid vehicles. The Prius is the standard-bearer of hybrids, and currently on its third generation, while most car companies haven't even developed their first. The fair price and terrific fuel economy made the Prius a very famous car. The predicament of exhaust emissions is one particular reason that the Prius even exists. Hybrid automobiles use a combination of electric motor and internal combustion engine that's run by gas. The electric motor made it possible for a reduced amount of toxic emissions and improved fuel economy.

Toyota established their reputation on dependability and continues to do so with the Prius. The hybrid cars by Toyota continue to be a good value even if they are used. At first, there were a number of issues about the car's durability, but so far they have been not a very big issue. The only real draw back is, due to its intricate engine, the cost of future repairs maybe high. Design-wise, the Prius has not really changed very much as it remains a four-door hatchback.

The Prius' powertrain consists of a 1.8 liter fuel motor that creates 98 horsepower and 105 pound-feet of torque. There's a couple of electric motors that work with the gas engine, and also a continuously variable transmission. At greatest acceleration, the full power is generated from both the gas-powered powerplant and the two electric motors. The Prius has the capacity to improve fuel economy in stop and go traffic by going on battery power only. Braking normally loses energy, but the lost heat is transformed into electricity, which charges the battery pack.

On the road, the new Prius has improved pick-up compared to older designs, but still lags from traffic stomps. The Prius bettered its already impressive fuel economy to almost 50 miles per gallon. The interior was improved to provide a more conventional center control set-up. The system display is adjacent to the digital speedometer, high on the dashboard. The climate controls as well as the stereo now have physical buttons, instead of a touchscreen. The vehicle has been made easier for larger people because of the telescoping steering wheel, and adjustable seat. The Prius has an attraction that goes over and above fuel-efficiency, and the hatchback style gives lots of room for plenty of cargo.

Toyota continues to make the Prius an outstanding automobile with amazing fuel economy and versatility. It is now much easier to cross over from a conventional car, because it is a more normal car to drive. While there are other hybrid cars, just like the Honda Insight, nothing measures up to the Prius.
